In Memory of Those Feline Children Who Crossed Over the Rainbow Bridge Resulting from Feline Leukemia, Other Feline Cancers & Feline Immunodeficiency Virus

Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth,
It is called the Rainbow Bridge
because of its many splendid colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land,
Of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm Spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who were maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.

There is one thing missing.
They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth.
So, each day they run and play
Until the day when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches!
The ears are up!
The eyes are staring!
And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen.
And when you and your special friend meet,
You take him or her into your arms and embrace,
And you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together-
Never again to be separated. [Author Unknown]

In Memory of Zoe, February 20, 2008
Zoe’s story all started when I was searching online for a companion for my first cat, Kittay. He appeared lonely, and I thought having a brother or sister (who was not a dog) to play with would make him even happier. I searched on Petfinder and found a posting for a female cat named Marty. Well, my favorite NHL hockey player is named Marty so I knew I had to read on. The posting said that she was a maine coon mix, was malnourished, and had all but two teeth removed. She also loved to paw or as the posting said knead biscuits.. read more...

In Memory of Bean 1990 - October 8, 2007

Bean died at 3:30 a.m. October 8, 2007. I woke up then and felt her around me, and knew she was saying goodbye with a brush and flutters of kisses like a new born angel; her sickness lifted. Thank you Lil' ol' Bean.

Her name was Sister Sweetness Angelica Proudfoot Bean. We called her Bean though. She came from the Atlanta Humane Society in 1990 as an abandoned older cat. She was around four to six years old when she was adopted, which means she was 18-20 years old when she left this world.

She lived out the happiest life, always looked after in the best ways possible, with all those simple pleasures abundant that cat's love. She loved her home, her Mama and family of other rescue kitties and doggies. She had special spots, and laps she loved to crawl in. She would not put up without being spoiled in ways her Mama loved to spoil her. She was open and learned to love people, the world around her, and all there was to enjoy in it.

THANK YOU to the tireless commitment of all the organizations and charitable work who gave an older cat like her a second chance to live out the happiest of lives with a companion who loved her dearly for more than half my life.

In Memory of Ozzie Marie, October 1995 - October 17, 2006
Ozzie Marie was our January model for the 2006 Marley Calendar and will be deeply missed by not only her immediate family, The Minges, but her extended family here at Marley Fund.  She lived a wonderful life with wonderful parents--one that all kitties deserve.  We have placed her calendar caption as it was in the 2006 for those to get a true appreciation of how special she was.  "Ice-green" eyes and a beautiful light-gray coat. Purr-fect for our baby New Year kitty for the wintery weather of January. Ms. Ozzie Marie takes center stage this month, with her piercing, emerald green eyes and expression. Ozzie was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease, meaning kidneys are not functioning or filtering properly. She is treated with great care at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Cary, N.C. and has her blood levels checked every two months as needed for managing the disease.  Ozzie has great stamina and focuses on her strength. She enjoys doing things that make her feel balanced and whole. She is living life to its fullest, seizing every available opportunity to be spoiled rotten by her amazing, generous and loving mother, Kristen Minges of Raleigh, N.C., who is a massage therapist. Ozzie gets daily massages and something her mother calls "healing touch" and "energy work" that helps her well-being and especially her kidneys. Ozzie is blessed with a celebrated life—a blizzard of love and support."

In Memory of Samantha, October 1, 2004 - June 24, 2006
I will never forget the first time I saw Samantha.  There she sat on the corner of the back porch.  She was so tiny she could easily fit in the palm of your hand.  It was feeding time and all the other cats shoved their way to the food.  Being the smallest, she was easily pushed away.  By the time she could push her way back through, all the food was gone.  I picked her up and she was so frightened.  She had never been handled by a human before.  I looked in to her beautiful little face, and knew instantly that this little kitten was going home with me and she would never again have to worry about food.  Sam was so different from all the other animals I had ever had.  Her personality was so unique.  Everyone who saw her fell in love with her.  She just had a away of melting your heart.  I didn't find out Sam had feline leukemia until the very end.  If I had known back then what I know now, I would have had her tested.  Once determined she was positive, the only thing different I would have done was educate and prepare myself for what to expect.  She would have never suffered through all the tests and surgeries she did in her final days.  Sam loved you unconditionally.  I will always be thankful for the time we shared.  She touched my life in a way no other has.  There is a part of my heart that will always belong to my little Sammy.  She was my best friend. ~Teresa T. In Memory of Francisco, March 12, 2001-March 7, 2006
A picture is worth a thousand words, but the love and companionship Francisco gave to us was priceless!  Francisco was a handsome longhaired, grey lion, and king of the Marley House.  He was really sweet.  He was called the king because all the other kitties residing with him just loved him, cuddling and rubbing against him constantly.  They just loved hanging around near him.  He was a great friend and a very protective kitty that was looking for someone to share his great attributes with and watch over.  He was never adopted, but had 7 mothers with us and a wonderful sponsor, as we watched over him together.  He was rescued in Goldsboro, NC in March of 2004 until he came to live with us in May of that year.  He was one of the strongest positives we have ever had, never having any serious illness until March of 2006.  He was diagnosed with oral lymphoma in March of 2006, which was a very sudden and shocking situation for us all.  He watches over us now from above.  We will never forget him and are thankful that he lived a good life however short with us at the Marley House.  We would like to thank Christopher Watkins of Louisville, Kentucky, Francisco’s sponsor, for helping us take care of him over the 2 years.  We all will miss his beautiful little face.

In Memory of Mango, March 1, 2001-November 1, 2002
Mango was a beautiful stray kitten who was abandoned by society.  My deadly mistake was that I did not test him for retrovirus infection prior to putting him in our home with Marley.  I now believe Mango transmitted the highly contagious feline leukemia virus to Marley.  For that reason, Mango plays a significant part in the formation of Marley Fund, for without him our story would not have happened and we would not have evolved to help others.  This is a tribute to a most wonderful animal and friend, My Mango. read more...

In Memory of Good Girl (GG), January 7, 2004-June 24, 2005
Good Girl was a beautiful mostly gray, cream and white, tabby cat.  She was the most wonderful, compassionate cat I ever had the honor of being that "special human" to.  She was indeed one of the best friends I have ever had.  This sweet soul only wanted to give love to a family that very deeply loved her. Good Girl was born sometime in early January 2004 and I picked January 7, as her official day of birth. read more...
