GREENVILLE, N.C.—Local nonprofit organization, the Marley Fund, was recently announced as one of the winners of the Maddie’s Fund Marketing competition.
The competition was for Petfinder.com members, and the purpose was to find effective marketing strategies for adopting hard to place dogs and cats.
According to the Maddie’s Fund Web site, 195 rescue groups, shelters and animal control agencies entered the contest, “describing all manner of methods for adopting elderly, disfigured, blind, deaf, unattractive and shy pets, as well as dogs and cats with medical and behavioral problems.”
Maddie's Fund awarded $300,000 to more than 100 organizations that entered the competition. The Maddie’s Fund mission and purpose is to help the nation’s most needy dogs and cats that, for one reason or another, have ended up in animal shelters. Established in 1999, the foundation awards millions of dollars through grants to animal welfare coalitions to end the killing of healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats.
Entries were judged on the quality of the submission, the marketing idea and its implementation, number of animals placed, documentation of results, size and sophistication of the organization, and resources available in the community, according to the Web site.
Carol deOlloqui, the Marley Fund’s Wake County Adoption Division Director, said the contest was right up the Marley Fund’s alley: "We pride ourselves on being a team player and actively assist other rescue groups and shelters by publicizing and taking in felines that they would otherwise not be able to place."
Joy Eubanks, president and founder of the Marley Fund, said that she is very proud of being selected as a winner and that the money received will indeed help better the lives of animals in the Marley Fund programs.
“Marley Fund was built around public relations theory and strategies,” related Eubanks. “The whole idea was to spread the word to as many people that we could touch to help save as many lives as we could.”
The Marley Fund is dedicated to making a difference in the fight against feline retroviruses, including both feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency viruses, through public service, promoting awareness and educating the public.
