Marley House

Marley House (FeLV) Greenville, NC

Marley House for FeLV kitties, located in Greenville, NC (headquarters of Marley Fund), is the first NCDA licensed and regulated shelter solely for feline leukemia positives in the state of North Carolina.  This small donated space is a safe haven for felines that are carriers of the feline leukemia virus (FeLV), and those who are asymptomatic (with no clinical signs of the disease).  As there are no symptoms of FeLV, testing felines is the only way to diagnose the disease; therefore, many animals are plainly carriers of the virus, but are still contagious to other felines.  Please see our Education, Testing, and Management of FeLV links for more information.  Note:  All information on FeLV has been provided by the American Association of Feline Practitioners 2001 Report.

Marley House for FeLVs accepts positives from individual rescuers and other nonprofits throughout North Carolina and surrounding areas.  Currently, we can only house 20 kitties, as our donated space is very small.  These kitties have free roam of the space and are provided general care by Marley Fund Volunteers and medical treatments, when needed, by 10th Street Animal Hospital, also located in Greenville, NC.

If and when we find a responsible pet owner, who may have a FeLV positive kitty already that needs a friend, and/or one that truly understands this disease, our Marley House kitties may find a new purr-manent home with these new parents.  We do require a veterinarian reference from prospective adopters and have an adoption contract for them to fill out as well.  This is what we live for, to educate those and give a positive feline a chance to live the life that they deserve.

Those who adopt these animals will be required to have a full understanding of the basics of Feline Leukemia Virus/Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and the importance of housing these animals indoors without contact with other felines.  Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus victims can live for many years and deserve a chance to prevail!  As long as you, the pet owner, are responsible there is no need to euthanize a FeLV or FIV positive cat, with exception to a feline that is undergoing the notorious symptoms of the disease.
